Plastic & reconstructive care centre

Sir Benjamin Rank founded the Victorian Plastic Surgery unit (VPSU) in 1963 at its original site at Preston and Northcote Community Hospital (PANCH). When PANCH was closed in 1998, the unit moved to our Mercy campus.

The VPSU has established a national and international reputation for reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery expertise. It has two operating theatres with specially trained staff and the ward has fully renovated single and shared accommodation, staffed by trained plastic surgery nurses providing excellence in patient care.

The VPSE continues the tradition of education by providing an accredited Surgical Registrar training position and a Division 1 post basic plastics and reconstructive surgery course held in affiliation with Australian Catholic University.

The breast unit was established on site and the Mercy campus in 2000 by Ms Suzanne Neal as a centre of excellence in the care of patients with breast disorders. This is a total care facility.

Located within the consulting rooms are diagnostic facilities

X-Ray,
Pathology,
Specialist Surgeons,
Specialist Physician,

Within the hospital, the ward is fully renovated with single and shared accommodtion available. This is shared with VPSU, and reconstructive breast surgery is available in the one area. Oncology is also managed from this area.
