Master of Health Science run in conjunction with Australian Catholic University is offered at St Vincents & Mercy Private in the following strands for 2010:
All students are enrolled in a Master of Health Science. Students who choose to exit following successful completion of the first four units will be awarded a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Practice in their chosen specialty. Students who successfully complete all eight units will be awarded a Master of Health Science Clinical Practice.
The units that make up the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Practice and the Master of Health Science are delivered through a variety of teaching modalities. Two specialty practice units are delivered on campus at St Vincents & Mercy Private and are facilitated by our experienced Education Consultants; these units incorporate lectures, tutorials and clinical simulation. Assessments consist of assignments, clinical practice hurdles and written examinations, the remaining units are undertaken online at Australian Catholic University.
The courses combine theory, evidenced based practice and research enabling the registered nurse to qualify with an exceptional standard of professional evidenced based practice, skills and knowledge in their chosen specialty.
Registered Division One Nurses registered with the Nurses Board of Victoria having had at least one year experience in the acute sector.
Each specialty is supported by a specialist Education Consultant, Clinical Coach or Clinical Support Nurse. Education Consultants play in important role in development of the programmes, delivering lectures and facilitating the courses whilst supporting the students in the clinical environment. Clinical Coaches and Clinical Resource Nurses are clinically based and act as role models and mentors to guide and support the students to achieve best clinical practice. All of our post graduate courses offer an amount of supernumery time within the specialized areas.
We also offer extensive education programmes, in service education twilights and short courses that are of no cost to our staff.
Integral to the pursuit of continuous quality improvement of patient care is the support of ongoing education and development of hospital staff.St Vincents & Mercy Private offer a limited number of scholarships for candidates wanting to develop their academic and clinical work experience in any of the Post Graduate specialty strands.
Post graduate positions in conjunction with Australian Catholic University are advertised internally and externally by St Vincents & Mercy Private in August/September each year, some post graduate strands have mid year intakes and theses positions are advertised internally and externally in April of each year.
